Scotland’s cities and their regions are home to the majority of Scotland’s population, education and employment opportunities, as well as hosting social and cultural amenities that attract and support a skilled labour force. Scotland’s cities and their regions contribute to two thirds of Scotland’s economy.
To maximise the economic potential of Scotland’s cities and their regions, the Scottish Cities Alliance, a unique collaboration between Scotland’s seven cities and the Scottish Government, was formed in 2011 following the launch of the Agenda for Cities.
Since 2011, the Alliance by speaking powerfully with one voice has increased Scotland’s seven cities international profile, ambition, and given impetus to innovation and fresh thinking which is captured in Scotland’s Agenda for Cities published in March 2016.
Building on this success, the Alliance will continue to identify areas where collaboration offers the greatest opportunities for economic growth across the Scottish cities. Current areas of focus identified are:
